Episode overview

In episode 121, we shake things up and start off the show with a cruise review from long time listener Powlo, Thanks to Garry in Sydney, for the images of Grand Princess arriving into Sydney and his topical questions around the exchanging of plaques, plus of course the latest cruise news!

Listener Question

Garry asks: I’m thinking this is her first visit to our part of the world which gets me thinking about the commemorative plaques that I’ve seen on a number of ships(mainly the Princess fleet) which celebrate a ships inaugural visit to a port, some of the plaques are very stylish and yet some rather plain. I’m wondering if Chris could enlighten me on the history of these plaques?

Are they a common occurrence to all ships or just specific to cruise ships?

Also congratulations to Chris on the success of his YouTube channel

PONANT’s Le Commandant Charcot turns to Airbus

European Waterways Welcomes Solo Travelers with Waiver of Single Supplement

  • Once considered a niche market, solo travel is quickly becoming an industry phenomenon, accounting for more than 25 percent of travellers worldwide. But “going solo” doesn’t necessarily mean going it alone. This is especially true on luxury hotel barge cruises with European Waterways, where solo travelers can often be found among guests. Because European Waterways vessels hold a maximum of just 20 passengers, solo travelers quickly feel “part of the family” by the like-minded passengers and friendly crew.
  • To welcome this “singular” segment of their clientele in 2023, European Waterways is waiving the single supplement on L’Impressionniste’s April 16, 2023 departure in Southern Burgundy and La Bella Vita’s April 16, 2023 departure in Italy. The offer is valid when booked by November 30, 2022.
